Hero scout

What I mainly want to use this site for is to post the gesture drawings from my sketchbook but every once in a while I will take a few minutes to add some detail. I have a lot to work on when it comes to learning greyscale values and line weight, but I have to start somewhere right?

I found this guy in a scout magazine and thought he fit the Scout Master bill perfectly. Whenever I show up to Summer camp or Klondike, I see a bunch of guys that look like this. This guy had a lot of character which makes for an easy sketch.

You have a phenomenal sense of drawing and not coming back and erasing. Its as if you are saying to the audience, "here's the way I drew it, and I want you to see the process as I was doing it." That's a very hard thing for me to do. I always want to fix things, and I fail miserably. You have a real gift there. Nice chamois work. The only complaint I have is the paper that you drew it on. Your sketchbook must have been close! Sheesh.

I actually created this particular sketchbook by binding together paper I was going to recycle from work. The print you see showing through is just the front side of a page that was printed on. I have a better sketch book that Natali bought for me, it's just too nice and I don't want to waste it. I guess that totally goes against the reasoning behind a sketch book. I actually just used a #2 pencil and no shammy. I'm working with the most generic stuff here, maybe because I'm cheap... who knows.

Nice Dave. You really have a natural talent for this stuff. I could never compete with you and Eric on character sketching. I was always amazed at what you guys could come up with while sitting in Sacrament meeting. Lol... You really do have an incredible talent for it. This guy looks like an overweight Gorbachev turned scout leader. I love it.
